Background: Tumor growth depends on cell proliferation and new blood vessels formation. In spite of the important role of these events in tumor progression , their relationship to patient gender and age is not clear. Aim : This study conducted to examine the relationship between VEGF and Ki67expression to gender and age of patients that involved with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) . Method :The expression of VEGF and Ki-67 were examined immunohistochemically on 23 archival tissue of Well-differentiated OSCC. The relation between VEGF and Ki-67 expression with gender and age were studied. VEGF and Ki-67 expression was assessed by obtaining the total score (TS = proportion score× Staining index). T-test and linear correlation tests were performed for statistical analysis. P≤0.05 was considered significant. Results : VEGF and Ki67 were expressed in all samples . For VEGF expression , the lowest and highest TS were 0 and 9 in females , 0 and 6 in males. Considering the patients age , the lowest and highest TS were 0 and 9 in ≤60 , 0 and 6 in >60 groups. For ki-67 expression , the lowest and highest TS were 1 and 9 in females , 1 and 6 in males. Considering the patients age , the lowest and highest TS were 1 and 9 in both ≤60 and >60 groups. The expression of VEGF and Ki-67 between male and females and different ages was not significant(p=0.43,p=0.88, p=0. 67, p=0.88) . Conclusion : The expression of VEGF and Ki-67 demonstrated in SCC of oral cavity . The expression of VEGF and Ki-67 between male and females and different ages was not significant .
